WHAT ARE THE TOP SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES EVER?

“Red Planet Mars” (1952) is undoubtedly one of the best (or one of the worst: in any case it’s not a halfway point) movies about the intrigues that preceded the Bolshevik revolution. The film narrates with realism the invasion of our planet by some Martians who are forced to make an emergency landing as a result of the drunkenness of the pilot, Grtyyuk Drakorewoo (whose name is significant because in Martian language it means 'the drunkest teetotaler'). Once on Earth the Martians have no choice but to rummage through the dumps, until they get tired and take out their ray guns. Humanity believes itself to be in danger of death or, if not of death, at least of total annihilation, and asks a circus clown (Peter Graves) for help. For a while, the clown manages to distract the Martians by juggling, but when one of the balls falls to the ground, the Martians understand that this is nothing more than a gross diversionary tactic, and they run out of the circus tent ready to conquer the planet or, alternatively, to spend a pleasant evening playing rummy. This precipitates the discovery that Grtyyuk Drakorewoo is really a teetotaler and that he had landed on Earth expressly with the unspeakable purpose of overthrowing the Czar of Russia. With a shiver, the spectator finds out that we are in 1917 and it’s already too late to hide the jewels as the storming of the Winter Palace will take place shortly after. And the rest is history.

"THE DEAD WISH GOOD NIGHT" (a paranormal tale)

One day, during breakfast, Sir William Barret announced that he wanted to test his mediumistic gifts. Henry Sidgwick asked him what was he based on to suppose that he possessed such gifts. He replied that when he was ten years old, he once dreamed of his father and when he woke up he found his father in the family room sitting in his favorite chair reading “The Times”. Then, he suddenly lowered the newspaper and, pointing to his son with his finger, asked "Have you read the Bible?". This story had a strong emotional impact on the members of the SPR, until Barret clarified that at that time his father still lived and resided in the old house in Sussex with the rest of the family. Still, Barret was so insistent that Sidgwick ended up agreeing to the whim of his friend and organized a séance for that same evening. After their vacation in Cleveland, the Dead Rabbits returned to their city with renewed vigor. Now they were planning an attack on New York University as revenge for having vetoed the entrance to his leader. The examining board alleged that Bobblehead was unable to account for the result of the mathematical operation 0 + 0 = 0. (He thought it was a trick question and claimed that the result was 4,731.) The plan was to paint the Washington Square Arch, symbol of the University, of vermilion. For that purpose they bought broad brushes and several giant cans of paint. Loaded with that equipment and with three long stairs, a moonless night they sneaked up to the Washington Square campus and began to paint the Arch thoroughly.
